I’ve been delving into a book that I’ve wanted to read for the longest time called The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf. In a nutshell it breaks down the various expectations of a woman in society into topics regarding work, religion, sex etc. It has allowed me to THINK. I’m sure once I’ve finished the book, I will do an in-depth discussion with you all but for now, let me just tell you what I’ve taken from it so far…
As women, we are living in a society dictated by men. As much as we are showing progression in regards to women’s rights and our livelihoods, the fundamentals of our existence are still dictated by men. Let me tell you, I have been highlighting and annotating the SHIT out of this book. It has really made me THINK. Discussions surrounding religion and how God created Adam first, followed by Eve, who essentially is a sum of all the spare parts of Adam. A man. From the beginning, we have been conditioned to believe that men are superior to women. If women are perceived to meet the required beauty standards in society, then they are told the only reason they have achieved those standards is because they are one of God’s favourites. It is all thanks to the big man himself. Women’s achievements are watered down. Celebrated lightly with the conclusion that it was most definitely easier for them to achieve what they do when they’re hot. Talent and ambition. Out of the window. Sexiness. IN. Hilarious. We could be here all day. I’m sure we will be when I’ve finished the book. For now, I hope you enjoyed that little taster of what is to come…Female rage is my favourite thing.
Okay, how have we all been? Let me tell you, my TikTok has been FLOODED with Halloween content and I am here for it! Halloween cocktails, Instagram captions, last-minute costume ideas, décor inspo. I can’t WAIT to get my creative juices FLOWING. I’ve been loving finding out what everyone is doing for Halloween this year. Costumes, events, wholesome evenings, I eat that shit UP. Happy spooky season everyone. Speaking of spooky season, I watched Woman of the Hour last night, which marks Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut. WOW. What a film. I put a lil review on the Instagram story sharing my thoughts but WOW. Please go and watch it if you haven’t already on Netflix. However, maybe don’t watch it when you’re home alone in the dark. Bad move Lucy. Bad move.
I hope you all have a gorgeous Wednesday and that this week is treating you KINDLY. Sending hugs.
Big love ALWAYS,
Lucy Xxx
